GLaDOS: The first interactive LGB STEM project
The STEM Center at LGB is a hub for innovation and creativity, providing students with the resources and support to explore their interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Learn more at LGB's STEM website.
Did you know? GLaDOS was featured at the AI for Good Global Summit!
Over the year
Take a look at how GLaDOS was worked on and progressed on over this year.
Start
Introduction of GLaDOS to the others
Since GLaDOS was worked on by a student run club this year, first, it had to be introduced to them and had the codebase explained to them. This way, they could understand how the robot worked and give ideas on how they believed it could be improved.
Middle
Improving GLaDOS
After the introduction, the club members started working on improving the robot. They worked on the codebase, the robot itself, and the response effeciency of the robot. They also worked on the movement of the robot and how it could move fully autonomously.
STEM Show
Present GLaDOS
GLaDOS was presented at the STEM Show last year. This year, we have presented it again, showcasing the improvements made to the robot and the codebase. We hope to show the audience members in the foyer, before and after the show, how the robot can move and respond to them.
A deeper look
Take a deeper look at GLaDOS.
GLaDOS is a sarcastic, artificial intelligence robot that appears in the video games Portal and Portal 2. Portal is a video game series where the player solves puzzles using a portal gun to create portals on surfaces. GLaDOS is the main antagonist of the series. Last year, the Advanced Coding and Robotics ECA group (member list) built a life-sized replica of GLaDOS. The robot was built using a 3D printer and programmed to sustain a conversation with a person. It was featured in the STEM Show last year and was a hit among the audience. Its biggest accomplishment was attending the AI for Good Global Summit at the Ecolint booth.
